Conception of a Multi-Level Converter on printed circuit board in the scope of Battery and Energy Management Systems applications / Aymeric Lenaerts
Titre : Conception of a Multi-Level Converter on printed circuit board in the scope of Battery and Energy Management Systems applications Type de document : Travail de fin d'études Auteurs : Aymeric Lenaerts, Auteur ; Omar Hegazy, ; Antoine Boucquey, Editeur : ECAM Année de publication : 2022 Note générale : VUB Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : TFE - Electromécanique Résumé : This master thesis will be focussed on the conception of a multilevel converter (MLC) in the scope of battery management systems (BMS) and energy management systems (EMS). A MLC is a topology that connects and disconnects multiple lower voltage elements in order to create a higher voltage output. The chosen MLC topology connects multiple direct current (DC) sources in series to obtain an alternating current (AC) output. Battery modules will be used as DC sources and thus the need for a BMS is discussed. Examining the BMS feature of the Individual modules enables to start the reflection of the EMS features. The purpose of the thesis is to help produce an instrument to experiment on a fixed MLC topology. The end goal is to provide support with the conception and realization of the hardware of the MLC. This will be decomposed in multiple chapters starting with the selection of battery modules and conception of an enclosure for the modules. Another chapter treats the BMS features and their applications. Next, a deeper comprehension of the MLC’s working through simulation on MATLAB SIMULINK and an introduction to the EMS. Finally, the design of the printed circuit board (PCB) and a conclusion.
