Conception of a Multi-Level Converter on printed circuit board in the scope of Battery and Energy Management Systems applications / Aymeric Lenaerts
Titre : Conception of a Multi-Level Converter on printed circuit board in the scope of Battery and Energy Management Systems applications Type de document : Travail de fin d'études Auteurs : Aymeric Lenaerts, Auteur ; Omar Hegazy, ; Antoine Boucquey, Editeur : ECAM Année de publication : 2022 Note générale : VUB Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : TFE - Electromécanique Résumé : This master thesis will be focussed on the conception of a multilevel converter (MLC) in the scope of battery management systems (BMS) and energy management systems (EMS). A MLC is a topology that connects and disconnects multiple lower voltage elements in order to create a higher voltage output. The chosen MLC topology connects multiple direct current (DC) sources in series to obtain an alternating current (AC) output. Battery modules will be used as DC sources and thus the need for a BMS is discussed. Examining the BMS feature of the Individual modules enables to start the reflection of the EMS features. The purpose of the thesis is to help produce an instrument to experiment on a fixed MLC topology. The end goal is to provide support with the conception and realization of the hardware of the MLC. This will be decomposed in multiple chapters starting with the selection of battery modules and conception of an enclosure for the modules. Another chapter treats the BMS features and their applications. Next, a deeper comprehension of the MLC’s working through simulation on MATLAB SIMULINK and an introduction to the EMS. Finally, the design of the printed circuit board (PCB) and a conclusion. Titre : Design and Modeling of Multilevel Converter for Drivetrains and Stationnary applications Type de document : Travail de fin d'études Auteurs : Antoine Boucquey, Auteur ; Omar Hegazy, ; François Defrance, Editeur : ECAM Année de publication : 2019 Note générale : VUB
Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : TFE - Electromécanique Résumé : The depletion of fossil resources and the trend towards massive decarbonization lead to a growth of electrification around the world. As a result, electrification is intended to grow exponentially in the coming years and power electronic converters will play a key role over a wide range of applications. They are expected indeed to be more reliable, modular, easy-to-maintain and cost efficient. This thesis consists on modeling, analyzing and manufacturing a Multilevel Converter which, at first sight, meets these requirements. The basic principle of the Multilevel Converter is to build a sinewave thanks to several DC sources. The switching stress as well as the harmonic distortion are therefore lower in comparison with traditionnal inverter using one bulky DC source. The objective of the thesis is therefore to develop, design and build our own Multilevel Converter in order to analyse/compare its behaviour with respect to other technique over two applications : automotive and stationnary applications. Finally, the limitations, the influencing factors as well as the development paths will be discussed for any eventual future work. Titre : Techno-economic feasibility study of a DC Distribution Grid supplying a H2-production plant Type de document : Travail de fin d'études Auteurs : Aaron Stypa, Auteur ; Maarten Pauwels, ; Antoine Boucquey, Editeur : ECAM Année de publication : 2022 Note générale : TRACTEBEL ENGINEERING Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : TFE - Electromécanique Résumé : Since climate change represent an existential crisis to human kind, the need for decarbonizing the industry, as formulated in the Paris Agreement to limit global warming, results in a growth of electrification around the world. This trend is most noticeable in the transport and power sectors with the increase of electric vehicles and renewable energy sources. Due to the intermittent and volatile nature of these renewable resources, storage systems must be integrated as well into the power grid to avoid fluctuations and synchronization issues. This thesis consists in demonstrating the feasibility of a DC distribution grid to effectively supply a H2 production plant and obtain a conclusive comparison between the different configurations whilst stating the advantages over the commonly used AC grid. The main objective is the elaboration of a template covering aspects such as design and planning via the use of a power system software, literary research and the help of engineers.
