Unloading of Panamax sand bulk carriers. Preliminary study and basic design of a system made to unload large bulk carriers at sea / Pierre-Ambroise Duquenne
Titre : Unloading of Panamax sand bulk carriers. Preliminary study and basic design of a system made to unload large bulk carriers at sea Type de document : Travail de fin d'études Auteurs : Pierre-Ambroise Duquenne, Auteur ; Gertjan Meynen, ; Arnaud Wiertz Editeur : ECAM Année de publication : 2018 Note générale : DEME Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : TFE - Electromécanique Résumé : DEME, a Belgian marine engineering company providing solutions in different fields such as dredging and land reclamation is currently carrying out long distance sand transports. To reduce the transportation costs, they would like to use bigger bulk carriers than the current ones. Given that bigger vessels do not have their own self (un)loading capabilities, a floating unloading terminal has to be developed to unload big bulk carriers at sea. Previous researches were made to improve the unloading rate of the vessels that have their own unloading capabilities but, to my knowledge, no previous investigation was led to develop floating unloading systems in the company. In this thesis, a comparison of all the existing systems was made and a system in particular was chosen. The chosen solution is a gantry grab crane completed by other accessories. A preliminary design of the system and a sizing of the main components of the unloading chain will be carried out. Thanks to this research work, the company will get a preliminary design of the system in order to further develop it. Unloading of Panamax sand bulk carriers.
